BEWARE OF NEW SCAMS
Two new scams have emerged with the help of technology; Vishing and Spoofing are both attempts to get consumer information by using a reputable institution’s identity. Vishing starts with an e-mail, just like phishing, except this time it asks you to call a phone number due to a problem with your account. If you fall for this request, a bogus automated system will prompt you to enter your information. Spoofing also uses phone technology that manipulates the phone number and name that shows up on recipient’s caller ID. This way the crooks are able to get information from unsuspecting consumers who answer their phone.
Remember to always be suspicious when someone asks you for your personal information if you have not contacted the institution on your own.
