Communities Have Dreams Too

HOURCAR, the Twin Cities’ car-sharing service has been offered at Park Midway Bank since August 2005. In addition to existing locations in the two downtowns and Uptown in Minneapolis, the Saint Anthony Park/University of Minnesota Saint Paul Campus neighborhood now has its very own HOURCAR.

Car-sharing, a new transportation option for Twin Cities residents, allows people who infrequently need cars to reserve and use cars by the hour. Members make self-service reservations online or by phone, pick up the car at their neighborhood hub, return the car to the same reserved parking space, lock it up, and walk away. The process is simple and convenient. Cars have on-board computers to record trip information, and members are billed monthly. HOURCAR pays for gas, insurance, and parking.

All of the cars in the HOURCAR fleet are Toyota Priuses, gas-electric hybrids which regularly garner over 50 miles to the gallon and produce relatively few emissions. Car-sharing is convenient for members, good for the environment, and saves money.

HOURCAR members must meet basic requirements, including holding a valid driver’s license for five years. Individual, household, and business memberships are available. For information on hub locations, rates, or to join online, please visit www.hourcar.org.

HOURCAR is a program of the nonprofit Neighborhood Energy Connection, located on Selby Avenue, whose mission is to reduce pollution, conserve resources, and improve quality of life by offering tools for energy-efficient living.




	Hampden Park Co-op Park Midway Bank has become a member of the Hampden Park Co-op on Raymond Avenue in south St Anthony Park. This food Co-op incorporated in June 1993. It is sustained by the community’s common interest in organic foods and healthy lifestyles. The Co-op shelves are stocked with products that are organic, unprocessed, fresh, locally grown, healthful, and minimally packaged. Approximately 250 members work as volunteers and receive discounts on purchases just by helping out in the store for several hours per month. At Hampden Co-op they believe that collective efforts of the community can make the world a better place through developing relationships and joint actions.
